Finian Maynard and FMX Racing retire from PWA

25/11/2024

Finian Maynard, one of the greatest champions of his generation, has announced his retirement from the professional circuit. At the age of 50, after a career spanning four decades marked by outstanding sporting performances, he leaves an indelible legacy in the world of windsurfing.

Making his competitive debut in 1989, the Virgin Islands native has racked up a string of victories, including six world speed titles (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2006, 2009) and numerous podium finishes on the PWA circuit. But beyond his performances, Finian Maynard has also made a name for himself in recent years as a designer and developer. By launching FMX Racing in 2019, he quickly established his boards at the top, as evidenced by the world titles won this year by Justine Lemeteyer in Foil Slalom and Pierre Mortefon in Slalom X. The end of Finian Maynard's sporting and professional adventure is a well-considered decision, marked by satisfaction and gratitude.

From competition to the creation of high-performance equipment for other windsurfers, he has risen to each challenge with passion and rigour, wishing to stop while FMX Racing is at the top. As far as the brand itself is concerned, FMX Racing will continue to be marketed by ML Sports, allowing the boards to continue competing on national circuits as well as IFCA events. However, the brand will no longer be a member of the PWA from 1 January next year. And while 2024 will crown an extremely rich career for Finian Maynard and FMX Racing, it will also effectively bring to an end his collaboration with Justine Lemeteyer, Pierre Mortefon, Johan Søe and Daniele Benedetti, who will have to find a new partner for next season...
