Emma Wilson and Johan Søe take victory

03/02/2025

The first iQFOiL International Games of the 2025 season came to a close in Lanzarote, with Johan Søe and Emma Wilson emerging as champions. Held at the Marina Rubicón, the event brought together 100 of the best iQFOiL athletes from 26 nations, marking the start of the Olympic cycle leading up to the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

The final day kept all its promises, with the Medal Series offering an exciting finale. The weather conditions are demanding this Sunday, with an irregular northerly wind oscillating between 10 and 16 knots, pushing the competitors to give their best.
Bronze medallist at the Paris 2024 Games, Emma Wilson displayed impressive consistency throughout the competition. Leading after the first phases, she secured her victory by winning the final. In the final, Wilson dominated the race from start to finish, proving her mastery and ease in these difficult conditions. Behind her, Shahar Tibi took second place, followed by Islay Watson, Anastasia Valkevich and Marta Maggetti.

The men's Medal Series is a true test of resilience and talent. 21-year-old Johan Søe kept his cool despite fierce competition and a fall early in the final, enabling him to win the title. The final got off to a tense start. Søe fell on the first downwind leg, allowing Nicolò Renna to win the first heat. In the decisive race, Søe regained his composure, taking the lead at the windward mark and maintaining his advantage to the finish. Modena finished second, followed by Renna and Badloe, the latter having lost ground after a crash. The final rankings confirm Johan Søe, followed by Nicolò Renna, Manolo Modena and Kiran Badloe.
With this first competition of the season, the tone has been set for a promising 2025. The athletes are now preparing for the next major events: the second round of the iQFOiL International Games in Cadiz from 8 to 14 March, followed by the Trofeo Princesa Sofía in Palma from 28 March to 5 April.
