Antoine Albeau so close

As predicted, Wednesday 27 November was a windy day at this edition of the Lüderitz Speed Challenge in Namibia. With 53.38 knots measured in the middle of the afternoon, everyone thought for a while that Antoine Albeau had set a new world speed record in windsurfing, before the organisers finally decided on 52.98 knots after video checking...
The race began on 4 November, but with a channel that has taken some time to become operational and a rather moderate wind up to now, it was on Wednesday 27 November that all the indicators were in the green in Namibia. On the programme, 35 to 45 knots for a likely day of records on the Lüderitz Speed Challenge. With such rare conditions on the canal in recent years, Antoine Albeau knew that this was his day, and he made one run after another. With 17 runs in total, 15 of which were above 50 knots, FRA-192 set off in a frantic race, with only Germany's Gunnar Asmussen able to keep up with the pace set by the Frenchman.
When the GPS timing system announced 53.38 knots shortly before 15h30 (local time), everyone thought that Antoine Albeau had beaten his previous record, 53.27 knots achieved 9 years earlier in Lüderitz in 2015. The social networks went wild, but a little later in the evening, the video checks finally announced an official time of 52.98 knots.
At this time, subject to confirmation and verification of the videos, Jenna Gibson of England could have beaten her record from the previous day (47.36 knots), after having made runs at 47.51 and then 47.53 knots...
