An original event in Australia

20/01/2026

With you, we continue

From 9 to 11 January, on the initiative of Paul van Bellen, the Wave Rally World Championships took place in Geraldton, at the iconic Coronation Beach spot in Western Australia. For three days, participants enjoyed ideal conditions, with winds of over 25 knots and waves reaching two metres. It was the perfect playground to showcase the concept of the Wave Rally World Championships, combining challenging sailing, a fast pace and non-stop entertainment.

Organised over three days, this second edition ultimately focused on Friday and Saturday, a strategic decision that paid off. On Friday, no fewer than 40 races took place at a sustained pace, with starts every ten minutes. The heats were short, lasting around six minutes, but extremely intense, putting the competitors' bodies to the test.

Saturday is marked by the finals in the various categories, culminating in the ultimate Championship Final. On the water, Jesper Orth seems to be in a strong position for a long time, but the race is also played out on the sand. In a spectacular sprint, local Anton Pain makes the difference to clinch the Wave Rally world title. Albert Pijoan, the defending champion, completes the podium.
Beyond the competition, the event confirmed the momentum of the Wave Rally World Championships, supported by a passionate community, committed volunteers and loyal partners. The final video produced by Paul van Bellen perfectly captures the intensity of the event, with a new date already set for January 2027!
