An explosive start at Hookipa

15/10/2025

The grand finale of the 2025 Aloha Classic kicked off on Tuesday in conditions worthy of the legendary Hookipa spot. On the agenda were steady trade winds, clean waves reaching mast height and a high-level spectacle to launch the first qualifying rounds. For more than six hours, the world's best riders delivered inspired performances, combining style, power and technical mastery.

Local Hawaiian Bernd Roediger stood out on the first day, posting the best performance of the day with a total of 14 points. Thanks to his fluidity and perfect reading of the spot, he finished well ahead of Antoine Martin. This demonstration confirmed his status as the benchmark at Hookipa and set the bar high for the rounds to come. Reigning world champion Marcilio Browne began his defence of the title in confident fashion, winning with 11.40 points ahead of Takara Ishii and Ricardo Campello. However, to retake the lead in the overall standings from Marc Paré, he will have to go one better than the Spaniard, who also got off to an excellent start with 12.53 points.

Camille Juban also stood out, dominating his series with 13.17 points, confirming his ease and fluid style, characteristic of one of the most talented riders on the circuit. Philip Köster and Víctor Fernandez sailed through their heats without any problems, while Levi Siver, Robby Swift and Graham Ezzy impressed with their consistency and precision. Frenchman Thomas Traversa, who had problems with his ESTA form and air travel to Maui, is the big absentee at the start of the competition...
Wednesday promises to be intense. The elimination rounds will begin with the women and the best female riders, including Sarah-Quita Offringa and Sol Degrieck. With similar conditions forecast, steady winds and solid waves, Hookipa is set for another spectacular day of action.
