A week of regattas in Pwllheli

28/08/2025

From 16 to 23 August, Pwllheli Bay in Wales was buzzing with excitement as it hosted the 2025 Techno World Championships. Fifteen races were contested in varied conditions, providing high-level spectacle and crowning the new Techno 293 and Techno 293 Plus world champions. Between moderate winds at the start of the week and more capricious breezes later on, competitors had to demonstrate adaptability and strategy on a demanding course, punctuated by choppy waters and frequent changes in direction.

Beyond the sport itself, the event stood out for its friendly atmosphere. Eighteen nations were represented, and on shore, coaches, families and supporters were able to enjoy an exceptional setting and live coverage from the modern clubhouse overlooking the water. The festive and warm awards ceremony brought this intense week to a close in the spirit of the Techno 293 community.
In terms of results, several young talents distinguished themselves. In the U13 category, Hungary's Antal Körtvélyesi won ahead of Turkey's Tuna Tekin, who had been the leader for a long time, while Italy's Chiara Marras completed the podium. In the U15 boys' category, the duel was between Spain's Joshua Castro Jurek, who was crowned champion, and Greece's Foivos Koulalis, followed by Evangelos Kyriazakos. In the girls' category, Spain's Olivia Sanchez Moral crushed the competition with nine victories, ahead of Greece's Iliana Panagi and Latvia's Marta Ieva Dale.

In the largest fleet, the U17 boys, France's Sören Nguema overthrew Greek dominance to take the title. In Techno+ boys, Japan's Daigo Komatsu won thanks to his consistency, ahead of his compatriot Takehito Katayama and Thailand's Navin Singsart. Finally, in the Techno+ girls' class, Italy's Teresa Medde confirmed her status by retaining her world title. The next stop is Turkey in April 2026 for more promising world championships!
