A long week ahead

30/09/2025

After a windless Sunday, Monday at the Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt dawned sunny with a light breeze. Gradually, the wind picked up to reach 6 to 14 knots, allowing the third elimination round in Foil Slalom to get underway. The light conditions prompted the riders to bring out their largest boards and sails. Unfortunately, the wind dropped before the end of the elimination round, leaving the competition suspended at the semi-final stage.

In the first semi-final, Johan Søe, the solid leader in the rankings, held his nerve and beat Pierre Mortefon, William Huppert and John Soukos, with the latter securing his first place in a winning final this season. The second semi-final was more eventful. After an initial attempt was abandoned due to lack of wind, Jordy Vonk won the second attempt, followed by Maciek Rutkowski and Matteo Iachino. This scenario proved costly for Fabian Wolf and Amado Vrieswijk, who were knocked out of the top eight for the first time since the start of the event. However, France's Alexandre Cousin took advantage of the situation to secure his first winning final of the week.

The rest of the week looks set to be more lively, with Tuesday's forecast showing 10 to 16 knots of east-southeast wind, paving the way for the conclusion of this third elimination round and the start of the fourth, where the first wild card of the competition will come into play. As for the programme, the waveriders will enjoy another day off on Tuesday, while the freestylers will have to wait until Friday, which promises ideal steady winds, before perhaps a Saturday marked by beautiful waves and nearly 30 knots forecast.
