From 22 to 26 May, the Freestyle Pro Tour made a stopover in Vieste, Italy, for the 1st major Continental Series competition of the season. On the programme, there were few conditions, but there was still plenty to see, with Lennart Neubauer in fine form...
The 1st competition of the season on the Freestyle Pro Tour, this stopover in Vieste in Italy was prepared for the vagaries of the weather by offering 3 disciplines, tow-in, foilstyle and freestyle, with wind requirements graduated according to the wind. The concept has already proved its worth in the past, and it will prove extremely useful from 22 to 26 May for this 1st event.
After 2 quiet days dedicated to tow-in qualifcations, the Freestyle Pro Tour caravan decided to take up residence on Saturday in the historic centre of Vieste for the final of the tow-in event. In this picturesque setting, Lennart Neubauer came out on top, ahead of Jamie Howard and Bodhi Kempen. In the afternoon, the wind picked up and the elimination table for the foilstyle event was launched...
The following day, Sunday, at 7.45 am, the red flag is raised for the end of this simple elimination in foilstyle. The semi-finals saw Steven Van Broeckhoven and Lennart Neubauer battle it out, as well as Yentel Caers and Tim Gerdes. The conditions, with a gusty wind and a bit of a swell, were far from easy. But the level was up by one more than last year. Lennart Neubauer beat Steven van Broeckhoven and Yentel Caers beat Tim Gerdes. In the final, the young Greek with German roots, who lives in Naxos, also won against Yentel Caers, although the Belgian seemed to be in better form at the start of the final. After a heavy storm, the double elimination, still in foilstyle, allowed the young Dutchman Tigo Kort to climb back up to 4th place after winning 3 heats before the wind decided to leave for good.
The foilstyle and tow-in disciplines once again proved that they could turn an event with poor weather conditions into a complete success. And Lennart Neubauer was the big winner of this event of the Freestyle Pro Tour in Vieste with 2 wins in both disciplines.
