A great event in Hookipa

23/04/2025

Scheduled over two days of competition, over a waiting period of five days in total, the MFC Maui ProAm at Hookipa offered ideal conditions last week, with mast-sized waves and strong winds allowing the competitors to show off all their talent. In the first rounds, competitors combined jumping and surfing, with the final focusing solely on surfing, with the two best waves taken into account.

Marcilio Browne dominated the event, stringing together fluid turns and explosive aerials. After his victories in Chile and Japan, this third win of the season confirms his impressive form. Marc Paré took second place, proving his versatility with two podium finishes in very different conditions. Japan's Takara Ishii, as dynamic as ever, rounded off the podium with his third place of the season, while Robby Swift showed his mastery of the spot.

In the women's category, Marine Hunter made her mark with victory after an intense final. Despite a difficult start to the final, she took advantage of the bigger waves at the end of the heat to win with a perfect performance. Lisa Wermeister, second, shone in her first Pro final. María Andrés and Colette Guadagnino showed their experience and took third and fourth place respectively.
The second day of competition saw France's Lisa Wermeister make her mark again with victory in the Pro Junior class (boys and girls combined!), while young Spaniard Javi Escribano won the Junior class. On home soil, Keith Teboul took the top step of the podium in the Masters...
After this busy start to the season for the waveriders, the next major event will be at Pozo Izquierdo on Gran Canaria in July.
