A final day full of twists and turns

01/08/2025

The Bay of Brest lived up to all its promises on Thursday for the final day of the iQFOiL Youth & Junior World Championships. After a week marked by capricious weather and increasing intensity, the westerly wind finally offered ideal conditions to crown the new world champions.

In the women's U19 category, Italy's Medea Falcioni made the difference at the decisive moment. After a poor start to the final, she reversed the situation in the third heat to win with panache. Her compatriot Francesca Salerno took second place, while Turkey's Nurhayat Güven won bronze after an impressive comeback from the quarter-finals. In the U19 men's event, Australia's Rory Meehan distinguished himself by his consistency in the final, surpassing Turkey's Artun Senol, who had put in an impressive performance since the opening rounds. Italy's Mattia Saoncella, who had started the final as leader, ended up third. Still on the third step of the podium that morning, France's Kylian Manhaval finished fourth...

The most unexpected performance of the day came from France's Thea Le Borgne Zibetti in the U17 girls' category. Drafted in extremis for the Medal Series, she seized her chance with brio, winning the final before the races were interrupted. She beat Israel's Naama Palatnik and Turkey's Parla Kabasakal. Finally, in the U17 boys' category, Dutchman Merlijn Boswijk dominated proceedings with two resounding victories in the final, ahead of his compatriots Peyton Dits and Finn Brull. Still with the Manhaval family, the next generation is assured with Swann, 15th in the U17s but above all winner of the U15s.
Italy walked away with the Nations Trophy
, followed by Turkey and France, proud of this perfectly orchestrated event.
