3 questions to Victor Fernandez

07/02/2023

One of the world's best in the wave discipline and PWA World Champion in 2010 and 2018, Spaniard Victor Fernandez has been following the World Tour for many years. Still determined to win a third world title, he shares his thoughts on the recently announced PWA IWT Unified Wave Tour...

Windsurfjournal.com: What do you think about the link between PWA and IWT?
Victor Fernandez: I am very happy with the Unified Wave Tour between the PWA and IWT. I think this is what our sport needs, more union to have a stronger tour, with variety of conditions, jumping, waveriding, left/right wind. These are the places you dream of when you are windsurfing. This tour will give good wave riders and good jumpers the same chance to win the title and having the final on Maui is great too.

WJ: The calendar was published a few days ago, what do you think?
VF: I really like the locations, I was expecting Cape Verde to be there but I am sure it will be next year. The rest of the events are high performance locations and it is finally a wave tour.

WJ: From now on, waveriders will have to be "tactical" and choose 3 events (or take part in all of them!). Have you already thought about your options?
VF: My plan is to start the year in Fiji, a place I have never been, but I want to ride a perfect wave. Also Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Sylt and of course Maui. I am not going to Japan because I will also be in Cape Verde and Chile. I am really looking forward to competing this year and I would like to thank everyone who has made this wave tour possible. We all want the best for our sport and the riders want more events to show their best skills in the best conditions.
