3 questions to Philip Köster

25/07/2022

With a 7th victory in his career at Pozo Izquierdo during the Gran Canaria Windsurf World Cup, Philip Köster confirms that he is the best on this spot. Now 4th in the world in wave discipline, he talks to Windsurfjournal.com about his performance...

Windsurfjournal.com: After your bad result in Cape Verde, in what state of mind did you arrive at this event in Pozo Izquierdo?
Philip Köster: After being run in the worst possible conditions in Cabo Verde, I went sort of relaxed in the PWA Gran Canaria event. The good thing about coming into an event with a last place is that you have no pressure to get a title, the Gran Canaria event is my favourite and I try to simply have fun and push the level of sailing.

WJ: During the single elimination as well as the doubles, you never seemed to be worried by your opponents... How do you analyse your week of competition?
PK: Of course, I had my doubts after not competing for so long, but I felt like I have prepared better than ever. Maybe I don’t look worried because I know what I have to do to get through tough heats. Of course, waves and wind have to cooperate to get everything done.

WJ: You are now 4th in the world in the provisional annual ranking, do you think that the world crown is still within your reach?
PK: After Cabo Verde, I sort of called the year off, it has been frustrating to compete in the worst when other spots have been amazing and the PWA didn’t consider moving the event, having an event that goes to the best conditions was agreed by all sailors and PWA beforehand. Otherwise, I’m excited to be sitting in 4th place right now, I will wait and see how it evolves in Sylt.
