The PWA circus has rolled into Westerland, on the German island of Sylt, for the final date on the 2008 World Tour calendar. From 27 September - 5th October expect to witness a full spectrum of windsurf action, as the Super Grand Slam swings into full-on competition mode. Friday is set aside for the registration of 100+ competitors, and mammoth event opening ceremony, which will see all the stars of the PWA introduced to the massive crowds, and officially welcomed to Sylt.

Both races Monday were won by Antoine Albeau in the mens fleet, and Karin Jaggi (SUI, F2, North) in the womens fleet. In difficult conditions with breaking waves of up to 1.5 meter and up to 30 knots of wind, the majority of the competitors had difficulties to score good runs.

Windsurfing in Paris !
|
|

|
It’s a pretty rare event to see windsurfing in the very heart of Paris, other than some indoor, as seen and much appreciated in the big hall at Bercy.
But on the 26th May, the French Olympic sailing team, including Faustine Merret and Julien Bontemps on their RS:X gear, came into town for a rare city session on the Seine, right in the heart of the capital, as part of their official presentation to the French press ! Some amusing footage to enjoy and even some proper planning, with a bit of arm work…

The windsurf manufacturers’ photoshoot and video season is often an occasion for the riders to let rip in the waves and try out their brand moves… In April, during the Fanatic photoshoot, Victor Fernandez, second placed in the 2007 world waves championships, was clearly bang on form, enough to nail an incredible forward off the lip, landed on the wave, and all filmed from start to end !!! Big Sunday in Brittany

We wetted your appetites about this one the other day, and now, here finally, and exclusively on WJ TV, a new video called Big Sunday in Brittany. It comes from the camera of Karim Goujon from Even Production, a film of fantastic footage shot in very difficult conditions… Enjoying the mad conditions, Julien Taboulet and Antoine Albeau manage also to show just how dangerous big stuff like that can be. F-100 was evidently on the limits, while Albeau only surfed two waves in the whole session, but waves coming in at 3 times mast height !!! Only a totally competent and confident windsurfer could get near sailing those conditions, with an accident never very far away without 101% concentration ! But seeing as those conditions are pretty rare, only the biggest of the big can be sure of getting the big adrenaline that goes with them…

We mentioned this one earlier in the summer, the new Windsurfing Cabo Verde DVD is now ready for release and should be appearing in the racks any day now… Made by French director Jean-Sebastien Lange, who’s been living there for the last 7 years, this is a veritable hymn to the island of Cabo Verde, and in particular to the superb conditions to be found on one or other of its beaches.
